Laumeier Sculpture Garden

So this Saturday, Chad had to work in the morning, so Hux and I headed to the Laumeier Sculpture Gardens.  This had been highly recommended by Rikki Uppstrom (my friend & fellow teacher Ariel Uppstrom's aunt), and I had read about it several times in various 'what to do in St. Louis' publications-so off we went for a picnic (Hux was most excited about the Girl Scout cookies we were taking for the picnic).

Hux, hiding after our picnic on the bench (the grass was too wet).  Note that Hux was a bit confused about Mama taking the Tarjey bag (he insists on saying Tar-jey as Daddy taught him rather than Target) for the picnic as it was the Tar-jey bag, not the picnic bag (whichever one that is...?).

The first sculpture, right by the parking lot-rather fun mosaic!

A quaint little bridge that I was not going to climb down the steep slope to see...

The back of the administrative offices/gift shop (alas-closed for renovations).

The lawn behind the admin/gift shop building-tons of sculptures and wide open space!

The awesome eyeball sculpture I told Hux to go touch...

....and after he did, I read the sign that said "please don't touch the sculpture."  Whoops!

Hux is far away in blue running towards the sculptures...

...this one he said looked like mermaids.  Great interpretation I think!

Hux, refusing to go any further, having run for 5 minutes.  I made him walk some more (mean Mama!)
I loved that the red sculpture is 18 salvaged steel oil tanks and entitled "The Way" by Alexander Liberman.  It was created between 1972 and 1980 with gifts from the National Endowment from the Arts.  It's awesome-but Hux had no desire to run through it...alas...he was cranky and hot!

Here are the other cool sculptures we could just see in the distance.  I wanted to head down the path to the Children's Sculpture Garden part, but Hux was having none of it.  So check out the silver tree on the far left and the black cannonball sculpture at the very back of the picture if you can.

Everything is in bloom-in the middle of March-crazy!

Hux liked the triangle sculpture on our way back.

Another awesome sculpture.

A lovely bench framed by lovely petals-what a great wedding location!

Hux said this sculpture looks like a finger.  I think he's right on!
